Hash-vocabulary and Hash-hieroglyphics

The Hash is worldwide vertreten and the "main language" is english. Therefore the expressions used are also in english and anybody in the whole world can take part in a hash, without necessarily knowing the national language.

ON-ON is the official Hash-salute and is also called out, when an "On-Trail" mark has been sighted.

"ON TRAIL" means, you are on the right track. The "Hares" lay the trail, just as in the game of "Hounds and Hares".

A "Down Down" is the expression for the beer, that has to be downed inside the circle - as punishment for wrong-doings or offences, of which there are quite a few in the Hash - some of them are listed at the bottom of the page.

Most of the marks are similar internationally. Whoever wishes to know more about the international Hash-rules, should take look at some of the international Hash pages. Links to a few of them can be found under"Links". Every Hash has its own customs in adapting the rules. The most commonly used signs of the H7-Hash, are displayed and exlplained below:
